How to take care of Banana Tree Musa Basjoo
Place container in full sunlight in a sheltered location in your garden (from March onwards), or in your conservatory. In summer it needs lots of water and once a month a compound fertiliser 12-10-18 and after planting an organic fertiliser on the topsoil will help to give better results. Keep fertilizer away from the trunk. Repot young plants in spring. Flower heads with brown bracts and yellow flowers appear in summer. Cut back to the base after flowering to stimulate new shoots. Water sparingly in winter as the biggest killer of these plants is water logging. In autumn you should bring the tree indoors. If it is not possible to bring your banana indoors, then wrap the base (after cutting back) with a thick layer of sacking or bubble wrap. Next spring it will re-grow again from the base.
