Mahonia aquifolium is a tough, evergreen shrub with glossy dark green holly-like leaves turning burgundy in winter. Suitable for low, loose hedging; from late winter to mid spring it produces clusters of golden yellow flowers followed by blue-black berries in summer and autumn.
It is resistant to summer drought and tolerates poor soils growing almost anywhere. The annual growth rate is approx 30cm.
