How to take care of Meconopsis betonicifolia
Himalayan Blue Poppies require lime-free humus-rich soil with some sand added for extra drainage. Keep soil moist in summer and remove all buds that appear in the first year in order to let the plant become firmly established. Give the stem support if planted in an exposed site. Leave undisturbed, as poppies dislike being transplanted. Separate them every 2 or 3 years. The flowers die as winter arrives, but strong plants will have produced offsets that will spread into a clump over the years. Weaker plants which have not produced offsets will die completely. All the blue poppy variations are herbaceous (die down naturally) and very cold hardy, although they may rot in wet soil.
