Pinus wallichiana is a wonderful coniferous tree and when grown in an open position it retains its spreading habit of the lower branches. It produces long, slender, silky-soft blue-grey needles.
The tree eventually takes on a largely pyramidal shape and their cones are just as impressive, hanging in small clusters from the branches.
If planted in partial shade, the blue needle colouring is intensified.

How to take care of Pinus Wallichiana
In general : Pinus Wallichiana dislike wet feet, therefore plant in well-drained soil which has been improved with some compost, you can improve soil drainage by mixing in some sand or grit to the planting holes. Pinus Wallichiana have strong preference for sandy, acidic soils. At the start of winter water the Pinus Wallichiana well so that they go into the winter with a moisture boost. As Pinus Wallichiana are evergreen trees, they keep on dehydrating all winter long. Avoid shading the base of the plant to prevent the lower part also turning brown - it does not stand shade. Do not apply fertilizer until your trees have been in the ground for at least 6 -8 weeks. It could burn the new roots. During Feb and March add some Natural Kieserite (Magnesium Sulphate) on top of the soil to improve the foliage colour, if you cannot obtain it, organic fertilizer will suffice. Pinus Wallichiana require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and should only be pruned to remove any dead and old wood.
