How to take care of Raspberry Zeva Rubus idaeus
They require a sheltered spot as strong winds can damage the shoots, grow best in full sun but they will tolerate partial shade. For best results the soil should be slightly acidic, not too heavy and rich in organic matter. If the drainage is poor, create a raised bed as the biggest danger is waterlogging. Stake with wires in between for support and tie the canes against the wires. Prune young plants in spring, and established plants, immediately after they have fruited to about 15cm above the top wire. Water regularly during their first season and if the weather is dry. Apply a general fertiliser in March and apply some mulch to keep the soil moist during summer. In its first year, the new stem grows vigorously unbranched, but will not produce any flowers or fruit. In its second year, the stem does not grow taller, but produces several side shoots, which bear smaller leaves with three or five leaflets.
