Schizachyrium scoparium Prairie Blues commonly called little bluestem is a native prairie grass, grown for its foliage that is more consistently grey blue in colour. In autumn it has fluffy silver seed heads that may persist into winter and its foliage takes on a rosy orange tone.
This low maintenance clump-forming erect grasses are absolutely stunning when planted in large sweeps and masses, or tucked among flowering perennials and groundcovers.

How to take care of Schizachyrium scoparium Prairie Blues
Grow in well-drained soil and choose a sunny to partial sunny position. Avoid over watering and over fertilizing. This can cause flopping and weak tissues that can lead to disease. But if you have to fertilize then use a slow release or low-medium rate fertilizer. Water well after planting and for the next few weeks to help it get settled. Drought tolerant once established. No serious insect or disease problems. Cut to the ground in late winter to early spring before the new growth starts to appear, but after the cold weather is over. Cut back to about 3-4" (8-10cm) from the crown of the plant.
