How to take care of Spiraea japonica Anthony Waterer
For best results soak the roots for approx 2 hrs before planting and water well after planting and for the next few weeks. This is a hardy deciduous shrub, one of the early varieties, grown for its mass of small flowers and arching stems that appear from mid to late spring. They are ideal for hedging plants. You can plant in autumn or spring and use a well-drained soil (not too dry). Spiraea flourishes in full sun and will tolerate partial shade. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. Prune after flowering by cutting away any weak or old wood. Height and spread: 2 x 1m (6 x3 ft) after five years.
