Camellia Japonica (Tea Plant) Collection 20-30 cm

Camellia Japonica (Tea Plant) Collection is a trio of classic Japanese camellias, chosen for their glossy, deep green foliage and refined early spring display. A decorative way to add structure and seasonal colour to an outdoor planting.

Location

Place these camellias outdoors in a partially sunny position. They prefer peaty soil, which helps them feel at home and supports steady growth.

Contents

The collection includes three plants: Camellia japonica in pink, red and white, each supplied in a 9 cm nursery pot.

Growth habit and size

Over time, these camellias grow into well-shaped shrubs with a mature height of 1.50–2 m and a spread of around 125–150 cm.

Plant care

For best results, plant into a well-drained spot and water in thoroughly after planting. Loosening the roots before planting helps the plants establish more easily.

Pruning and maintenance

After flowering in May, remove any yellowing leaves and trim back unwanted branches to keep the shrubs neat and balanced.

Winter hardiness

These camellias are hardy down to –15°C. When kept in a pot, shelter them from strong sun, wind and frost.

Instructions

Remove the plants from their nursery pots and gently loosen the root ball so roots can grow outwards.
Soak the root ball in a bucket of water for 10–12 hours before planting.
Dig a planting hole deep enough so the root ball sits just below soil level.
Mix some potting compost into the soil from the hole so moisture is held while excess water can drain away.
Place the plant in the hole with the roots spread out, backfill, and firm the soil.
Water well after planting.
After 4 weeks, add a small handful of organic fertiliser on the soil around the plant.
Remove yellow leaves and prune unwanted branches after flowering in May.
If growing in a pot, protect from strong sun, wind and frost.
