Brugmansia is native to South American and Central America where they can be seen growing as small trees in the wild. Amazing Brugmansia plants produce very dramatic, super large trumpet-shaped flowers, which are sweetly scented.

Brugmansia plants are ideal for large patio tubs. When fed and watered well Brugmansia will maintain a wealth of very elegant shaped colourful flowers and foliage all summer long.

These Angel's Trumpet are tender and therefore are not hardy so bring indoors during winter.

How to care for My Brugmansia

Plant them in a large planter in good potting compost and add coarse sand for drainage, place the planter in a large saucer in which you can add up tot 3-4 cm of water daily during summer. Best is rainwater. Brugmansia should never dry out, they are real water consumers.

After the plant has settled, fertilise with organic fertiliser on top of the soil. Place the plant in full sunlight at a warm spot in your garden or terrace. Fertilise every 4 weeks with a compound fertiliser or use our slow release fertiliser tablets, about one tablet per 2 litre of pot content  ( in general I would say place 4-6 tablets)

The plant will grow quickly into a fair sized plant, trim if needed, flower buds are formed during July -August, the plant will flower until well into autumn. During winter store your plant in a frost free area the same as you would do with Fuchsia plants. Replant during early April place the plant outside by end of April and give if needed night frost protection. Use a decorative plant tub as the plant and tub will create a delight to the eye in your garden

Some times Brugmansia leaves do yellow and fall regularly. They are very greedy plants so feed them well as described above. Also you need to check for red spider mites, this might be a cause of leaf yellowing. They are very difficult to spot, they look like pepper dust on the underneath of the leaves. Spray the leaves with a fine spray of water and look for very fine spiders webs on the ends of the branches, if infected you can get an insecticide for mites and spray them accordingly

They need lots of watering but they don't like their roots standing in water.
