How to take care of Polianthes tuberosa plena The Pearl x 3
Plant Polianthes tuberosa plena The Pearl in the warmest part of the garden in well-drained soil. Let the foliage die back naturally to feed Polianthes tuberosa plena The Pearl for next year. Dig up before winter and store Polianthes tuberosa plena The Pearl in plastic bags with sand or vermiculite until spring. Check regularly for rot. When grown in pots it is best to use a fibrous loam enriched with compost and some silver sand for drainage. Polianthes tuberosa plena The Pearl require copious amounts of moisture when starting into growth but you still need to be careful not to waterlog the soil. Tuberose rots easily. They will begin to grow when the night temperature has risen to approx. 15 degrees Celsius. The flowers should appear about 90-120 days after planting, usually late summer or early autumn. Cut away the yellowed foliage after flowering and move the pots to a place where the rain or frost will not hit them, out of direct sunlight and where the temperature will not drop below freezing. In spring move them back to a sunny location and resume the cycle again.
Bulbs that have bloomed once will not bloom again. Discard such old bulbs and replant the younger lateral crowns. These younger offsets should flower in two years time if they are lifted and you strip off the tiny bulbs attached to it after the first growing season.
