Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron', or Japanese blood grass, is a deciduous clump forming ornamental grass. It produces blood-red spikes that fade to bright green at the base which become more intense over the summer. Suitable plant for borders or in the rock garden, and especially when mass planted.
For a dramatic effect plant in combination with pink and red flowering perennials or in combination with other, usually higher ornamental grasses. Once mature in late summer the specatcular red foliage shines like a beacon before it dies back.

How to take care of Imperata cylindrica Red Baron
Suitable plant for borders or in the rock garden, and especially when mass planted. Plant in a sunny to partially shaded position in any well drained soil. Although this prefers moist soil, plants require good drainage, especially in winter. Enrich the planting site with organic matter prior to planting. Water well after planting and for a few weeks until the plant is established. Mulch grasses with organic material in the autumn to protect roots and shoots from freezing. Grasses which die back completely in winter can be rejuvenated by cutting the entire plant back to about 10cm in early spring. Remove any all-green shoots if they appear. Clumps may be easily divided in the spring. Seldom produces flowers. Its slow to establish but once it does its worth it. Foliage will die back each year and return in spring.
