Liatris Spicata Floristan Violet is an eye-catching perennial that brings vertical structure and a fresh wash of purple through the garden in the summer and autumn months.

Best placed outdoors in a sunny spot or in light, semi-shade. Its tall flower spikes make it a natural choice for beds, borders and even larger containers.

Growth habit and size
This perennial forms upright stems topped with densely packed purple flower spikes, reaching around 80–100 cm when fully grown.
Plant care
Plant into well-drained soil and water thoroughly after planting, repeating in dry spells. A little organic fertiliser helps to enrich the ground, and a spring mulch supports neat, steady growth.
Pruning and maintenance
Remove spent flower spikes regularly to keep the display going. For long-term vigour, lift and divide the clumps about every three years, then replant the strongest pieces.

Instructions
Plant the rootstocks in well-drained soil in sun or light shade.
Improve the soil with organic fertiliser.
Add peat at planting time and apply mulch in spring.
Water well after planting and again during dry weather.
Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage flowering.
