By far the most striking of the Ninebark family, Diablo has deep purple to bronze foliage and blooms in early summer with pretty pinkish white flowers followed by very attractive bright red seeds (in fact the seeds are actually more stunning than the flowers). This deciduous shrub does well in a mixed border or as a hedge in combination with the golden variety Dart's Gold, which makes a stunning contrast. They are extremely adaptable doing well in sun as well as part shade and most types of soil, rarely in need of pruning; they actually look much better if left to grow wild.

How to take care of Physocarpus Diablo Chocolate Tree
For best results soak the roots for approx 2 hrs before planting and water well after planting and for the next few weeks. Physiocarpus is a hardy deciduous shrub with exuberant clusters of tiny white flowers that appear in mid spring to early summer. They are suitable for the back of borders. You can plant between late autumn & mid spring. Choose a full sun location. They do best in a moist acid soil, avoid chalky ground. They require very little pruning but may be trimmed between late autumn & early spring to keep them in shape & prevent straggling.
