How to take care of Watermelon Sugar Baby
For best results start seeds off indoors in a tray filled with compost mixed with grit. Once any chance of frost has passed and when the seedlings are approx 10- 15cm tall transplant them outdoors to a sunny sheltered position or to a greenhouse. Space plants approx 1.5 metre apart in rows approx 1.5 metre apart, they need plenty of room. Plants are best grown against a trellis to support the heavy fruit. Mulch around the roots to keep the soil warm and retain moisture. Fertilise with a tomato fertiliser every two weeks.Watermelons are ready for picking after 75 days, tap on the fruit when it sounds hollow it is ready to be harvested.
