Chamaecyparis obtusa Teddy Bear have strong preference for sandy, acidic soils. At the start of winter water the Chamaecyparis obtusa Teddy Bear well so that they go into the winter with a moisture boost. As Chamaecyparis obtusa Teddy Bear are evergreen trees, they keep on dehydrating all winter long. Avoid shading the base of the plant to prevent the lower part also turning brown - it does not stand shade. Do not apply fertilizer until your trees have been in the ground for at least 6 -8 weeks. It could burn the new roots. During Feb and March add some Natural Kieserite (Magnesium Sulphate) on top of the soil to improve the foliage colour, if you cannot obtain it, organic fertilizer will suffice. Remove any diseased branches Place the compressed soil tablet(s) in a bucket and add 1 pint of water per tablet to dissolve them. Mix the soil around until you have a fine structure.
