Hydrangea paniculata Wims Red also known as Fire and Ice is a fasincating newcomer on the market. Its impressive large blooms change colours as the seasons progress.
In spring the blooms open in a cream-colour, by midsummer blushes of pink have overtaken the florets, and soon the entire plume is a rich shade of maroon.
Not only a very decorative shrub that creates season long display and suitable for all gardens or large containers but it also emits a wonderful honey fragrance all summer long into autumn.
A real winner! Supplied as a young specimen.

How to take care of Hydrangea paniculata Wims Red
Hydrangeas require a moisture retentive soil that is enriched with organic matter such as peat. Thrives best in partial shade. Choose a sheltered position against a wall or under a tree but avoid hedges. Protect against severe frost in winter. Do not remove dead flower heads - leave them on through the winter as they help protect the plant from frost. To maintain a specific height they may be pruned immediately after blooming as flower buds are formed on previous season's growth. In spring, feed established plants with a fertiliser and apply a thick layer of mulch for protection of the roots. Colour is strongly affected by the level of PH and aluminium in the soil. Fertiliser can be added in spring to enhance the coloration. In colder regions, flower buds may freeze without protection.
