How to take care of Kiwi Actinidia Arguta Issai
This kiwi is very easy to care for. From spring, fertilise once a month with an organic fertiliser until September. It can take 1 year for the kiwi to bear its first fruit, until then you should not prune back. The flexible branches of this climbing plant should be supported and well secured to a pergola. Depending on the weather, the fruits are ripe in October-November, sometimes already in September. Cut the fruits off the stems. Overwinter young plants frost-free, cool and dark or protect well from stronger frost (also the shoots), e.g. wrap thickly with fleece or jute, root area with a thick layer (min. 15cm) of dry foliage. Cut back the branches to 40 cm annually (after the first fruit yield) in May. Side shoots will then grow out of these, to which the fruit will be attached. Make sure that there is a space of about 30 cm between these side shoots. Cut off any superfluous side shoots. In December, after harvesting, shorten the side shoots that have borne fruit to 5-6 eyes (buds).
