How to take care of Leek bluegreen Winter
For best results dig in plenty of well-rotted manure or compost the autumn before planting time (this must be done months before planting). Plant seeds from mid spring in a seedbed. Sow seeds thinly approx. 2.5cm apart, cover with a fine layer of soil and spray with water. Drills should be around 15cm apart. When the leek seeds have germinated and the shots are visible, thin out seedlings to about 4cm. transplant to their final position when the leek is as large as a pencil (20cm), water the site well the day before planting. Plant them 15cm deep and 25cm apart. Water young plants after planting and during dry periods. Leaves, which grow too long, should be trimmed back so that they do not rest on the ground. Blanch in August this will increase the size of the edible part of the plant, push the soil up around the plants to increase the soil depth by about 5 cm each time.
