How to take care of Standard Camellia Tree
Plant in a large planter with drainage holes and place a layer of pebbles in the bottom of the pot to ensure good drainage or it can be planted directly into the ground. It prefers a lime free soil. For best results position in a sheltered partially shaded position. Stake the shrub until it is strong enough to withstand the wind itself. Feed in late spring or early summer. Apply a thick layer of mulch around the base at time of planting to retain moisture. Prune into shape in March. Remove old flower heads to encourage prolonged flowering. If you are growing this plant in a pot make sure that the pot is well protected from harsh winter frosts, you can do this by either burying the entire pot in the soil and mulching around the top with a few inches of bark or leaves, or by wrapping the pot in a sack filled with straw and placing it in a sheltered spot or you could move the pot indoors to an unheated room, it does not need much water in winter however do not allow it to dry out completely.
