Contents
Supplied as a young privet plant in a nursery pot of Ø 9 cm.
Growth habit and size
This shrub forms a dense, structural hedge with a green look for much of the year. When fully grown, it typically reaches around 1.50–2 m, depending on how you maintain it.
Plant care
After planting, allow the plant time to settle in before feeding; start using organic fertiliser from at least 6 weeks after planting.
Pruning and maintenance
For a thick hedge, plant about 4 per metre. In the build-up phase, trim the new growth 2–3 times per year, cutting it back by roughly half. Once the hedge has reached the height you want, clipping twice a year—spring and early autumn—keeps it neat and well-shaped.
Winter hardiness
Privet Atrovirens is hardy down to around –15°C, making it a reliable choice for Irish gardens in winter.

Instructions
Plant outdoors in a sunny spot, though it also copes well with shade and adapts to many soil types. For a dense hedge, space around 4 plants per metre. While the hedge is establishing, trim new growth 2–3 times a year, cutting it back by about half; repeat until the desired height is reached. Once established, clip twice a year, ideally in spring and early autumn. Apply organic fertiliser from at least 6 weeks after planting.
